Now there's a novelty!..
Well, I turn my back for 5 minutes and not only does Gormless quit (before Autumn), but Dave and Nick decide to join forces. It hasn't been well received by everyone of course: the Daily Mail has been notable in its criticism of Clegg actually calling him "Fifi", and "harlot". Well, I used those terms first, so there.. Then tonight I nipped over to the Tory Party web site to see what had changed and was shocked to see a frank, and somewhat in-yer-face statement by none other than Dave that he would be " Putting national interest first". Yes. You read that correctly, and just to emphasise the message: " Putting national interest first".Now tell me, seriously, when was the last time you heard a politician state that in public? Shocked? I nearly paid my licence fee! As to whether the dynamic duo of Clegg and Cameron will live up to that promise is anybody's guess, but I'm willing to bet at this stage that the conjoined twins will last 4 months before a greatly-reformed Nu Labour will come back to challenge them. When that happens you can bet that there will be casualties aplenty, and of course, the Country that politicians are conspicuously scrambling to "support" will suffer again. Don't be under any illusion that our new masters will be any different from the old team under the skin!

Marry in haste, repent at leisure..
According to a number of media sources today is a "crunch day" when the random cluster of politicians simply has to form a government. This despite the fact that there still appear to be some fundamental disagreements about policies, which to me seems pretty key to being to run the country. Of course, this need to have a shotgun wedding has also been brought on as an excuse to (a) get the gravy train rolling again, (b) calm the jittery financial markets, (c) get the country running again, and, er, (d) start the cull of embarrassing/obsolete party leaders. Yes, Cameron and Clegg have fulfilled their promise to get us where we are now, but in a Coalition government, would there be enough room for both politicians? I suspect not, and therefore I'd conjecture that this Coalition would closely resemble a Patsy Kensit marriage the last one of which has ironically failed because "she's really insecure about what Jeremy does when he's out DJing at clubs every night.." - well could Dave trust Nick, and vice-versa? What the end result will be today therefore is a hasty short-term marriage, notorious for internal disagreements and punctuated with bouts of very public passion. The losers of course will be the country and the electorate, but sadly in the UK this has come to be the norm rather than the exception and we can only hope that this will be replaced by a marriage, not only stable, but long term too. One can hope ...

Goodbye Gordon..
It's old news now, but Gordon Brown has announced that he'll be stepping down as leader of the Labour party. Actually, is that right? Did he ever actually lead it? Anyhow.. he'll be going in the Autumn, presumably when this pitiful Hung Parliament will have been sorted out: or maybe it'll take Sarah that long to do the packing and find a new house. After all, 13 years is a long time to be in one property and the search for a new one won't be easy, thanks, er, thanks to you Gordon! Well, they do say that whatever you do will come back at you 3-fold.. So, who's the favourite for the inevitable leadership struggle (and believe me, there'll be a lot of jockeying for position between now and September). My money's on one of the odious Milibands to be the new PM, but of course the real source of power will be that wicked Lord Mandelson. No, of course he won't be taking over the PM's role - his style is to manipulate from behind the scenes (at a distance) then deny all responsibility when it all goes titsup.Anyway, there's a while to wait before September, but if it turns out that I was right, remember you read it here first ;-)

Hung Parliament my arse - Clegg's playing the WAG.
Now that we have the inevitable Hung Parliament, the true natures of those who would be our political masters starts to be revealed. Although I initially rated Nick Clegg as someone with at least a little integrity, it seems he's now playing the part of the WAG who's caught the attention of two big-league players. Should he go with the more experienced, older suitor (Gormless Gordon of course), lured by the inevitable promises of that old chestnut, electoral reform? What I'd say about this one is that if Clegg does indeed hop into bed with Brown he'd better keep looking over his shoulder, as the Young Pretender Milliband and his Wicked Uncle Mandelson are waiting in the wings, daggers drawn. His political life would be a series of very unsatisfactory couplings and encounters and the country would suffer as a result. After all, when has Nu Labour ever been concerned about the end-result for the country (despite hos doorstep speech the other day) when all he's really interested in is keeping the wheels of the Gravy Train running smoothly. What I believe is that as soon as Brown has lured Clegg into a relationship with Labour, and the honeymoon is over, Milliband will make a bid for the leadership and Clegg will be superfluous. If he goes with the younger, less-experienced Cameron, he has the enormous carrot of electoral reform, but does he really think that he'll have a role once the LibDems are subsumed into the Tory party, and the shadows lurking in the background are still there but not quite as noticeable as with Labour.Whatever happens, Clegg will need to make his mind up very carefully: not only as regards his personal survival but he also needs to bear in mind the implications for the country. We may end up with just two political parties and a handful of eccentrics. Lets see what the weekend brings...

BNP web site oddity..
As the BNP's been getting a bit of publicity lately, not all of it welcome, I decided to and have a look at their web site. I was surprised to see this message when I got there: "A message from Simon Bennett due to the volume of phone calls and emails I am receiving: This website and domain are no longer in my control. I have not sabotaged it. The domain name has been pointing to the new BNP server since last night (5th May) which is completely out of my hands. If your Emails are affected, again this is completely out of my hands and control. If you are reading this message it is because they have set up their server incorrectly and this needs to be resolved by the new webmaster. It is important to note that I have been working hard to negotiate a seamless switchover of the website, but for reasons unknown to me the leadership have chosen to force the domain from me, steal my work, data and systems and go it alone rather than paying for it. I will continue to work hard to try and resolve the situation quickly, professionally and amicably. This is in the hands of Nick Griffin and Jim Dowson, not me. It should also be noted that they have decided to put a personal grudge against me before the interests of the party and its members. This was not a fight of my choosing".Then, by the time I'd looked up various WHOIS settings and gone back to the page for another look, another, new page had appeared, that started with:"A message from BNP Leader Nick GriffinFellow British Patriot,Welcome to the temporary website of the British National Party. The BNP is a patriotic, democratic alternative to the old parties that have wrecked our great country...". Very odd! What's going on at the BNP, and why now in the middle of a general election?

I've done my duty-now its up to them..
It was odd watching BBC Breakfast TV this morning: after weeks of frenzied and targeted newsbytes telling us what our glorious would-be leaders were up to, the sofa team were really just sitting there waiting for something to happen. Of course, that somehing won't be happening until tonight and no doubt the majority of the nation will be glued to their TV sets to watch their fate unfold. Whether it'll be what we're expecting is anybody's guess but I know i've done my duty this morning and voted. It was hard to tell what the turnout had been like so far, but from the number of tick marks on the invigilator's checking-in form it looked like the good folk of Guildford were doing their duty. To anyone who hasn't/won't vote because they believe its too difficult, well it ain't! The names are there on the ballot paper and even if you can't read the badges of the parties are also there. So get out there and do it!As to whom i've voted for, well, all i'll say is that it isn't Gordon, Dave nor Nick :-) As to whether my vote will make a difference I don't know, but i've remained true to my original statement and have no regrets. There will be more later!

Today's the day!..
The DAY has finally arrived! A month of campaigning, schmoozing, imploring, speech making, doorstepping, lying, fighting, bitching, debating, Tweeting, gaffe-making, smiling, kissing babies, insulting voters and endless prediction polls is FINALLY over and we get to choose a new government. Can you believe it? I can't, and I really hope we don't end up with a hung parliament. So get out there, use your vote wisely and remember what they said about George W Bush: " If you voted for George Bush, you can't shit here...your asshole is in Washington". Will it be the same for Britain? Only we have the power to decide that!

Thursday will be a long night..
Thursday will inevitably be a long night for me: I'd already planned to stay up late and watch the election results as they came in, but now I'll be joining the (other) gentlemen of the Press as I go along to photograph the Returning Officer proceedings. Should be fun, and maybe I'll take along my inflatable cushion along with a packet of ProPlus that I keep for times such as these :-)

1 day to go .. ho hum..
There's 1 day to go until we go to the polls and try and eject Nu Labour from its cosy seat from which it is managing to ruin the country. Neither of us can summon up anything resembling enthusiasm for the task ahead but it has to be done: if we don't vote then we're really not entitled to complain. As to who will get in, well, who knows? The myriad polls seem to be pretty much in agreement but polls are pretty much meaningless anyway: actually, I don't think I've ever been aware of so many "floating voters" in a general election and I'm still convinced that we don't have a single candidate that we can look up to.Tomorrow therefore will be a depressing day, and we'll attempt to "do the right thing", but isn't it sad that we have to choose the least poor (quality) candidate rather than the best man for the job?

I know who I'm (not) voting for..
I've traditionally had a low regard for those that claim to be our political leaders, and in the old-media days this was based on what was in the newspapers (dead tree versions) and how daily life actually ran. After all, there's nothing like being directly affected by a Westminster policy to judge its effectiveness, or otherwise. Likewise, at election time we had inevitable dead-men-walking procession of doorstepping political wannabees, but this was no substitute for the actual person being elected: after all, you could have a very nice Prime Ministerial hopeful let down by a local candidate with all the charm of a bipolar Rottweiler. So it wasn't until the new-age media finally admitted that our parliamentary hopefuls could be finally shown to their electorate, AKA the Great Unwashed, that we really got see what was what, who was who and what they really stood for. Even with pre-chosen questions from a muted and emasculated audience, these 3 buffoons managed to reveal their true selves and unfailingly disappoint in the process; something that will no doubt continue once one of them has been elected by a confused, and almost certainly desperate electorate. It wasn't just the TV debates though - its been the politicians' use of the new-new media, such as Twitter, and YouTube in Labour's case. They've embraced the new technology like a heroin addict on benefits day and proceeded to show themselves as the vengeful, indiscrete liars that we always suspected them to be. How many of them have spouted tides of vitriol at the "opposition" or even the suckers they want to vote for them? Or in the case of Kerry McCarthy, blabbing about postal vote returns even before the official day?? Anyway, the police are now investigating, but the damage is already done. When people don't understand the technology they can get hurt really quickly. So who am I going to vote for? Well, I'm not voting Labour, nor Conservative, nor the flip-flopping LibDems, despite all the personally-addressed, expensively produced electioneering bumph that's plopped through the letterbox recently. Despite my local candidates apparently worthy efforts over the past year, their leaders JUST AREN'T UP TO THE JOB AND I DON'T TRUST THEM. GOT THAT?As to who I will vote for, that's my business, but you can bet that whichever muppet gets into power on May 6th/7th it won't be one that I've voted for.

They smile while they stab you..
Gordon Brown's awful gaffe with Mrs Duffy has by now been done to death, so I won't comment on it further. It only goes to show though how men of Brown's calibre can smile at you while thinking what a bigot you are. Two-faced? Yep.

The Lib-Lab-CON and that IFS report..
It comes as no surprise that the 3 lowlifes hoping to lead the country (where?) have been unwilling to tell us the whole, uncomfortable truth about the country's finances. IFS have done the voting populace a tremendous service by not only exposing the truth but finally making those that didn't already know aware of what a mess the country's finances are in. Personally, what I find very difficult to accept is not the fact that we are in so much trouble, but the fact that these devious creatures feel that we can't handle the uncomfortable truth: we cannot go on borrowing money ad infinitum - we have to pay it back sometime, and it will hurt. What sort of opinion do Brown, Cameron and Clegg actually have of the people that would put them in power? Seriously? Well, for starters, they must think we're sheeple - but we're not. According to the increasingly haggard Clegg, we're "King Makers" - hohoho.. what utter crap Nick, and please pull the other one! Oh, and Nick.. you gave your most honest interview ever yesterday with Jon Snow yesterday - he crucified you and exposed you for being the weasel you really are. Give it up now and leave the other two to fight it out.No, this time we're better informed than we ever were, and you are going to suffer as a result of that knowledge. No, you really are, and if we are given the power to sack useless or corrupt MPs then by god we will: judging by the performances we've seen so far I'd say that a lot of the scum putting themselves forward for election need not bother - we're going to sack you as soon as we can.You have been warned.
