Evenin' all - anyone for tea and biscuits?..
I'm amazed to read in the Surrey News and Mail online that last year Surrey Police Service (now I know why they're using that term) spent GBP130 on tea and biscuits for cottagers and doggers in a notorious Surrey layby. This is all in the name of "cohesion", I believe. According to the article dated March 19th,  "The aim is to build trust between the police and people who go there, in order to encourage the homosexual community to report any hate crimes". And, "According to Surrey Police, neighbourhood officers visited the location with the local LAGLO (lesbian and gay liaison officer), with a view to having a cup of tea and a chat with members of the public". Well, how jolly, and isn't it reassuring to know the next time someone's beating the shit out of an innocent member of the public, Surrey Police will be asking important questions such as "..did you want another custard cream?", or "one lump or two?".

What concerns me about all this (apart from the fact that Surrey Police can afford the man-power and feel that they can spend my Council tax in this way) is that Surrey Police was "..working in accordance with ACPO guidelines in the way it monitored and dealt with any incidents in the public sex environment". If ACPO have the time and energy to devise these frankly crackpot schemes while Surrey Police are allegedly short of officers, then someone, somewhere has their priorities very wrong indeed.

From bad to worse in 3 weeks?..
Although I've only been back in the sink estate of Europe (UK) for 2 days I made a conscious decision not to read the news until today. Well, what a mistake that was! Just looking at today's headlines from the weekend it appears that I've missed a couple of brazen gang murders, RAF fighters scrambled twice following "incidents" in UK airspace, Tony Blair back on the Nu Labour campaign trail(!), a Winter vomiting bug that's extending into Spring, Exeter Police "burgling" 50 homes as part of a crime-education  programme, "Authorities" allegedly failing mentally ill mother who drowned her daughter before suicide attempt, a 74 year-old man becoming Britain's oldest father, a return to Dickensian London as parents learn that the body of their dead baby son has been stolen by a fox in an unsecured mass baby grave, and of course the usual vacuous so-called celeb "news" that seems so important now. Oh yeah, and the looming election that seems to be spawning more and more vicious hate campaigns from the idiots allegedly leading the country.

And if that wasn't enough, the fucking rail signalmen are going on strike next week: "RMT signallers' strike - travel advice for South West Trains customers: South West Trains services to be severely disrupted during strikes; Vastly reduced service to lead to extremely busy trains; Trains to operate between 0700 and 1900hrs - no services to run outside these times". Well done lads - perhaps you can join the dinosaurs from British Airways.. See the press release here.

So can it go from bad to worse in 3 weeks? Of course it can, but one has to wonder how much more broken can Britain get?
